** Following is an Open Letter Released to Arabian Horse Association Members **
After receiving and carefully considering an abundance of feedback from a variety of viewpoints, the Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Commission has decided to revise the decision from the recent Convention and return the three Purebred Yearling Sweepstakes classes to being held as Open classes rather than Amateur at U.S. Nationals.
The commission also decided to increase the pay out in these three classes to $25,000. This means the Champion in each class will win $5,000, the Reserve Champion will receive $3,200, and each of the remaining Top Ten winners will receive $2,100 each.
All other Sweepstakes In-Hand classes will remain the same in 2019 as they have been in recent years. The Half-Arabian Yearling classes will remain Sweepstakes events through 2020. Starting in 2021, the three Purebred yearling classes will be the only Breeding/In-hand classes with Sweepstakes funding.
The commission is working to make Sweepstakes better for all the breeders that support the program, and to do so in a reliable way. To that end, the Open yearling classes with a $25,000 pay out per class are intended to be permanent, and are committed to be in place for the next 10 years.
The commission regrets any confusion that these changes may have caused, and apologizes for any inconvenience that members may have incurred.
We look forward to seeing you all in Tulsa in October.
