ARABIAN BREED CROWNS U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONS

The third annual Rolex Central Park Horse Show (RCPHS) began on Wednesday evening, September 21, in New York City's Wollman Rink with featured competition celebrating the Arabian breed. The Arabian Horse Association and Aljassimya Farm proudly presented the second annual Arabian U.S. Open at RCPHS, showcasing the beauty, athleticism, and diversity of the Arabian breed through a variety of classes. DONATIONS REQUESTED FOR YOUTH JUDGING CONTEST

This year’s Annual U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show once again will host the 46th Annual Arabian Horse Youth Judging Contest. This is the largest nationally accredited contest for AHA Youth Programs. This special event is the training ground for young men and women who will shape the horse industry into the next millennium. Contestants from 4-H and FFA clubs, AHA clubs and universities from across the continent evaluate the conformation and performance of some of the finest Arabian horses in the country. Online registration for the Arabian Horse Association's annual convention is available here. Please log in and you will be directed to the online registration page. The convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma, October 16-19, 2016. In an effort to help accommodate everyone on the move to Tulsa: Early Bird deadline has been moved to October 15.  President's Banquet tickets have been reduced from $70 to $50. SWEEPSTAKES AAO JACKPOT CLASSES BRING IN EXCITEMENT TO U.S. NATIONALS

The Arabian and Half-Arabian U.S. National Championship ranks as the most prestigious Arabian Championship in North America, so it's no surprise of the excitement when the class entries come in. New to U.S. Nationals this year are the AAO Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes (ABS) Jackpot classes. NEWS FROM THE ARABIAN HORSE FOUNDATION

The Arabian Horse Foundation, as in past years, supported the Arabian Horse Youth Nationals. This year, there were two phases to the Foundation's participation.  As in past years the Foundation awarded scholarships. However, there was a unique twist to two scholarships as they were given to exhibitors who were deemed true sportsmen. 2016 WDAA ANNUAL MEETING AND CONVENTION APPROACHING

The 7th Annual Meeting & Convention of the Western Dressage Association of America will be held in Guthrie, Oklahoma on September 28 and 29 in the Roper’s Cantina, located at the Lazy E Arena. RIO OLYMPIC DRESSAGE GOLD MEDALISTS TO PERFORM AT ROLEX CENTRAL PARK HORSE SHOW

The Rolex Central Park Horse Show (RCPHS) is pleased to welcome back top dressage riders to Wollman Rink for competition in the U.S. Open Dressage, presented by The Axel Johnson Group, on Friday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24. The enrollment deadline for the U.S. Performance Futurity/Maturity deadline is today, August 31, 2016. If you have been making payments for your Performance Futurity/Maturity Program enrollment, and have not yet completed all installments, the final payment(s) must be postmarked/electronic transaction dated by August 31, 2016 in order to avoid additional late fees. AHA 2016 ANNUAL CONVENTION TO BE HELD IN TULSA, NOT DENVER

Due to untimely and unforeseen construction delays caused by transformer backorders at the Denver Tech Center Marriott, the hotel will not be completed in time to host AHA's Annual Convention from November 16-19, 2016. Therefore, the Executive Committee has acted to move the Annual Convention to Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa - the same hotel that hosted Convention in 2015.  Room rates at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa will remain the same as 2015 at the $99 (before tax) a night rate. 59th ANNUAL ARABIAN & HALF-ARABIAN CANADIAN NATIONALS DEEMED A SUCCESS

Completing its 59th show and its sixth year in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, the Arabian & Half-Arabian Canadian National Horse Show closed out seven days of fun and showmanship this past weekend. Held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba, August 14-20, Canadian Nationals boasted 719 horses and 2,244 entries. Exhibitors hailed from five Canadian provinces and 41 different states. More than 200 classes and 18 different disciplines were represented at the show, including Purebred and Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian classes. NEW 2016-17 AHYA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED

At the Arabian Horse Youth Association (AHYA) Convention on July 22, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, youth members had a chance to convene and make important decisions for the youth association. At this event, youth meet members from other regions, elect new officers, discuss issues, and cast votes to make changes. This year, the Arabian Horse Association youth members voted on their new Executive Committee. The AHYA Executive Committee is in charge of running AHYA Board Meetings, discussing changes within the youth association, and bringing forth important decisions to the AHYA Board. 2016 ARABIAN & HALF-ARABIAN YOUTH NATIONALS DEEMED SUCCESS

The Arabian Horse Association's 2016 Arabian & Half-Arabian Youth National Horse Show went back to its roots, with a triumphant return to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, July 23-30, 2016. More than 800 horses, 1,700 exhibitors and 3,200 Arabian horse industry professionals, parents, grandparents and youth from all over the United States and Canada hauled into State Fair Park, which hosted the event's return after a 15-year absence from the metro-OKC area. The newly renovated facility, with climate-controlled barns and a wide array of show arenas proved to be a natural fit for the kids and their horses. The 2016 Arabian Horse Association Annual Convention will be held November 16-19 at the Marriott Denver Tech Center in Denver, Colorado. As such, the official Convention hotel is the Marriott Denver Tech Center. Room rates are $129 USD plus applicable taxes, and rooms will be booked on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don't forget the August 15 deadline to submit resolutions for the 2016 Arabian Horse Association Convention. Resolutions may be submitted by any AHA committee/commission/club or by the AHA Board of Directors or the AHA president. USEF EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR 2017 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAM APPLICATIONS

The application deadline for the 2017 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team to compete at the U.S. Test Event to be held April 3-6, 2017 in Perry, Georgia, has been extended to September 1, 2016 after confirmation that there will not be a 2017 Test Event in South Africa. The purpose of the Young Riders Team is to develop athletes for future International Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup competitions. During years that the International Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup is not held, Test Events allow members of the Young Riders Team to represent the United States in international competition. USEF NAMES MATT FINE AS CHIEF COMPLIANCE OFFICER

The United States Equestrian Federation Chief Executive Officer, Bill Moroney, announced the appointment of Matt Fine as the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO).  At the USEF’s Mid-Year Board meeting, President-Elect Murray Kessler presented a new Strategic Plan for the Federation. As part of that plan, Kessler identified the need for a Compliance Department and hiring of a CCO. The new department will have three primary responsibilities: ensuring compliance with competition standards, investigating incidents at licensed competitions, and monitoring internal compliance with USEF policies and procedures. AHA'S FREQUENT RIDER "100 TO 100" TO BEGIN

The Frequent Rider Program "100 to 100" is about to kick off! The first 100 individuals to log 100 hours starting on July 15, 2016 and on will receive a free Frequent Rider Program dry erase board that can be used to keep track of your hours riding or driving your Arabian horse. To be eligible, you must be a current AHA member, be signed up for the Frequent Rider Program and can only log riding/driving hours that have been ridden or driven from July 15, 2016 on that will count towards the promotional item. GUIDELINES FROM OKLAHOMA CITY FIRE MARSHAL

Headed to Oklahoma City for the 2016 Youth Nationals Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show? Before you set up your stalling area, make sure to read these important guidelines from the Fire Marshal: 1. There shall be NO plastic or vinyl material in the buildings, coverings for stalls, or used for temporary security of retail storefronts. 2. Only stalls for tack storage, entertainment, or sleeping can be covered on the top, and will require a smoke detector. 3. U.S. SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP TEAM EARNS GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS AT 2016 INTERNATIONAL SADDLE SEAT EQUITATION WORLD CUP

The U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team traveled to South Africa to compete in the 2016 International Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup at the Mistico Equestrian Centre, July 7-9. The 12 U.S. athletes delivered excellent performances against teams from Canada, Namibia, and South Africa. Under the guidance of coaches David Cater (Dunbarton, New Hapmshire), Pam Roush (Lutz, Florida), and Kent Swalla (Columbia, Missouri), the Three-Gaited section won gold and the coveted Three-Gaited World Cup trophy while the Five-Gaited section won silver. MURRAY S. KESSLER ELECTED USEF PRESIDENT

The United States Equestrian Federation Board of Directors (BOD) elected Murray S. Kessler as its next president at the Mid-Year BOD Meeting in Gladstone, New Jersey on Tuesday. The president ultimately presides over the volunteer leadership structure of the USEF. Since 1917, only 13 individuals have served in the presidential role. Kessler will officially take office at the USEF Annual Meeting in January 2017. In the interim, he will work with current president, Chrystine Tauber, and the USEF staff on the implementation of a new strategic plan, also approved by the BOD Tuesday, and ensuring a smooth leadership transition. Mark your calendar now to attend the 13th Annual Arabian Professional & Amateur Horsemen's Association Youth Nationals Clinic from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 in the Performance Arena. HEADGEAR ORNAMENTATION ADVISEMENT FROM USEF ARABIAN COMMITTEE

To Arabian Judges, C2 Stewards, Competition Management, Show Secretaries and Exhibitors: Please be advised that there have been increasing incidences of unconventional protective headgear appearing in Hunter Pleasure classes across the U.S. This headgear with ornamentation are not in accordance with AR138 and is deemed inappropriate (not traditional) by the USEF Arabian Committee. This rule clearly defines what is acceptable conservative attire and what is allowed as adornment. Exhibitors are cautioned that such attire can be severely penalized by the judge. ROANOKE VALLEY PREPARES FOR 2016 DEBUT AT VIRGINIA HORSE CENTER

The historic Roanoke Valley Horse Show has found a new home in the Virginia Horse Center, and is excited for this year's competition held from June 20-25. Highlight events during the multi-discipline event for exhibitors and spectators will include the highly anticipated $25,000 Grand Prix of Roanoke on Saturday June 25, and the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by Chatham Hall on Friday June, 24. USEF ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2017 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAM

The United States Equestrian Federation is now accepting applications for the 2017 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team. The purpose of the team is to develop riders for future U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup competitions.
