ARABIAN EQUESTRIANS ANNOUNCED AS CANDIDATES FOR USEF EQUESTRIAN OF THE YEAR

The Arabian Horse Association has announced that two of its members, Wendy Potts and Jody Strand, are among 15 nominees for the 2018 USEF Equestrian of the Year. AHA encourages members to vote for the Equestrian of the Year by January 3, 2019. WENDY POTTS is a talented horse trainer, and the owner of Freewill Farm in Mansfield, Texas. REMINDER: 2018 STALLION REPORTS DUE BY DEC. 31

The Arabian Horse Association reminds its members that as the year closes, it's time to submit a stallion report, which is a record of the mares a stallion bred this year. This report is a requirement for the registration of the upcoming foal(s) from these breeding(s). AHA ANNOUNCES YOUTH OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNER

Arabian Horse Association youth members are exceptional, and the Youth of the Year Award honors one outstanding youth member who exemplifies character and dedication to excellence in his or her academic and community achievements, as well as contributions to the Arabian horse industry and AHA. In 2018, one candidate distinguished herself with a passion for the Arabian horse breed in bringing industry individuals together to help others. AHA has announced Ashley Lounsberry, from Pawnee, Illinois, as the honored winner of the 2018 Youth of the Year Award. US EQUESTRIAN ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2019 U.S. SADDLE SEAT YOUNG RIDERS TEAM

US Equestrian has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2019 U.S. Saddle Seat Young Riders Team. During years that the Saddle Seat World Cup competition is not held, members of the Young Rider Team will be eligible to represent the United States in other international competitions, whether at home or abroad. The purpose of the Young Rider Team is to develop athletes for future Saddle Seat World Cup competitions. The Saddle Seat World Cup is a bi-annual competition that originated in the early 1980s with an informal exchange of saddle seat riders in the United States and South Africa, formally named the Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup in 1992. CLINIC AND SHOW TO BE HELD IN ARIZONA THIS DECEMBER

Desert Palms Equestrian Center has announced that a clinic and show featuring Emily West will be held December 8-9 at its facility in Cave Creek, Arizona. Emily West currently is an assistant trainer at Visser Stables in Versailles, Kentucky. As a junior exhibitor, Emily competed on the United States World Cup team, and was a multi-national titled Equitatiion rider. She graduated from William Woods University, and has worked with many notable trainers and farms across the country. RULING REACHED ON PAT VS AHA LAWSUIT

A 22-page ruling on the Purebred Arabian Trust vs Arabian Horse Association lawsuit, which was initiated by the PAT, was handed down by Judge Elizabeth Beebe Volz. The Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law, and Judgement settle the dispute between the two associations. The suit related to which organization owned the $2.8 million Horse Registration System (HRS) software developed and paid for by AHA. On September 19, 2018, the judge ruled that HRS was not a part of the "licensed technology agreement" and, therefore, is owned solely by AHA. Another key issue was whether the contract work AHA does for the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry (CAHR) is subject to royalty payments to the PAT. Again, the court ruled against the PA

For attendees showing in a Performance Futurity/Maturity/Derby Class at the 2018 U.S. National Championship Show a separate enrollment into the program is required. AHA RELEASES INFORMATION REGARDING UPCOMING CO-OWNER RULE

The following information was released by the Arabian Horse Associatiion regarding Resolution 4-17, Co-Ownership and Eligibility to Show in JO/AO Classes, Without Restriction, which will be in effect on December 1, 2018. As of December 1, 2018, the combined ownership is permitted in Junior Owner's or Amateur Owner's classes under the following conditions: Two distinct non-family owners may co-own a horse and show that horse in Junior Owner or Amateur Owner classes except that no family member of a professional may enter into this relationship. 2018 YOUTH NATIONALS ARABIAN HORSE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Each year the Arabian Horse Foundation awards multiple scholarships to individuals at the Youth National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These scholarships are generously donated and awarded to those youth who have worked so hard to make it to this prestigious show. This year $6,000 was awarded in numerous classes. U.S. ARABIAN OPEN TO CONTINUE IN SEPTEMBER 2019

The Arabian Horse Association has announced that the third annual U.S. Arabian Open during the Rolex Central Park Horse Show in New York City will be put on hold until September 2019 due to the World Equestrian Games (WEG) being held the same month as the U.S. Arabian Open in 2018. WEG is a major event to showcase the equestrian sport and will be held September 11 - 23, 2018, in Tryon, North Carolina. Many of the individuals that help plan and attend the U.S. Arabian Open will be involved with WEG. Due to the dedication needed for each event and the expectation for the U.S. Arabian Open to be the very best possible for the exhibitors, sponsors and spectators, it has been decided to delay the Central Park event till 2019

AHA INTRODUCES NEW AHYA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

At the Arabian Horse Youth Association (AHYA) Convention on July 20, 2018, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, youth members had a chance to convene and make important decisions for the Youth Association. At this event, youth met members from other regions, elected new officers, discussed issues and casted votes to make changes. This year the Arabian Horse Association youth members voted on their new Executive Committee. The AHYA Executive Committee is in charge of running AHYA Board Meetings, discussing changes within the Youth Association and to bring forth important decisions to the AHYA Board. THE RIGHT HORSE INITIATIVE AND AHA FORM NEW PARTNERSHIP

ARABIAN HORSE HIPPOLOGY CONTEST COMES TO U.S. NATIONALS

The Arabian Horse Hippology Contest will be celebrating its inaugural year on October 24-27, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Held in conjunction with the Arabian Horse Association U.S. National Championship Arabian Horse Show and the Arabian Horse Judging Contest, this contest is a great opportunity for youth to see some of the greatest Arabian horses in the country and test their equine knowledge at a national level. UPDATES FOR 2018 DISTANCE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Arabian Horse Association National Distance Commission has made an important schedule change for the Distance Horse National Championships held this year at the Spook Run Site in Henryville, Indiana, from October 26-28. It has decided, due to discussion at the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) Convention, to hold the 50-Mile Championships on Friday, October 26, and the 100-Mile Championships on Saturday, October 27, and the AHA CTR Championship will run on Sunday, October 28. The Youth Nationals Commission met in Scottsdale, Arizona, last week to discuss plans for the 2018 show, which will be held July 21-28, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Below are announcements and updates for Youth Nationals.     FUTURE YOUTH NATIONALS LOCATION: A Request For Proposal (RFP) was sent out to several facilities following the Youth Nationals Show. CANADIAN NATIONALS 2018 UPDATES

The Canadian Nationals Show Commission met during the Scottsdale Show to discuss upcoming changes to the event. Canadian Nationals will take place August 12-18, 2018, at the Keystone Centre, in Brandon, Manitoba. The following changes were made to the class list for the 2018 Canadian Nationals: HA/AA Stock/Hunter Type and Saddle/Pleasure Type Classes will be combined in to HA/AA Mare Breeding, HA/AA Gelding In-Hand, HA/AA Mare Breeding AAOTH, HA/AA Gelding In-Hand AAOTH (all classes are 3 & Over). MARQUISE INVITATIONAL AUCTION A SUCCESS

Friday, February 23, 2018, was a night for the history books at the Marquise Invitational Auction during the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, held February 15-25 in Scottsdale, Arizona. "Legend" is a fiberglass horse that was painted by the well-known artist Suzanne Economopoulos and is a part of the Arabian Horses for Humanity project. It was purchased for an impressive $75,000 by Dan Grossman, with an additional $25,000 donated by Arabian Sole, for a grand total of $100,000. The proceeds of this purchase will go to benefit Warrior Horses for Warrior Kids. Warrior Horses for Warrior Kids was created by Ryan Melendez to bring awareness to Leukemia.

LOCATION ANNOUNCED FOR 2019 SPORT HORSE NATIONALS

The Sport Horse Commission has announced that the location for Sport Horse Nationals in 2019 will be held at Balmoral Park in Crete, Illinois, September 2-7, 2019. There will be an option to renew for 2021 and 2023 to continue the East/West Coast rotation. AHA RELEASES GUIDE TO NAVIGATING QUALIFICATIONS

The Arabian Horse Association has released an easy-to-read road map to navigate the qualifications needed for AHA Regional and National Shows. Here are the association's quick points to remember: Qualifications are earned during the current show year up to the time of the Regional or National show and the entire previous calendar year (i.e., for the 2018 show year, the qualification period starts on January 1, 2017). The U.S. Nationals Show Commission met over this past weekend, and has some exciting announcements regarding the decisions made. The U.S. Nationals competition will be held October 19-27, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The closing date for this year will be August 28, 2018. UPDATES TO SWEEPSTAKES FOR DISTANCE NATIONALS

The Sweepstakes Commission at the Distance Nationals horse show has decided to separate Arabians and Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabians for Sweepstakes payout at both the Regional and National level, effective January 1, 2018. REMINDER: SUBMIT STALLION REPORTS BY JAN. 31

The Arabian Horse Association reminds its members to submit stallion reports by January 31, and they're still free. After January 31, the cost will be $50 per stallion.  Stallion reports are required for all U.S.-registered Purebred Arabian stallions bred to all U.S.-registered Purebred Arabian mares.
