CHANGES MADE TO ARABIAN BREEDERS SWEEPSTAKES PROGRAM

New changes have taken place in the Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Program, providing additional opportunities for you to receive payout:  Increased payout in the ABS Yearling classes at Canadian and Sport Horse Nationals. All Arabian and Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian Yearling Sweepstakes classes will now receive $10,000 per class. Payout will be issued to all Top Ten, regardless of the number of entries. The only qualifications for this class is that the yearling is nominated as a Breeding Entry. The ABS Yearling classes at U.S. Nationals still require a Top Ten placing from a Regional ABS Yearling class from one of the 18 Regional Championships. REMINDER: STALLION REPORTS DUE BY DEC. 31

The Arabian Horse Association reminds members that Stallion Reports must be postmarked by December 31 of each breeding year in order to avoid late fees. The association requires a Stallion Report for all U.S.-registered Purebred Arabian stallions bred to all U.S.-registered Purebred Arabian mares (including those owned by the member). TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO SIGN UP FOR A 2017/2018 AHA COMMITTEE

Arabian Horse Association Committee sign up is an annual process. Any adult AHA member who will be attending the 2017 Convention and wants to participate as a voting member of a "Tier B" Committee needs to sign up for the committee prior to Convention. Any member wanting to be on an AHA Committee in 2018 and have his or her name printed in the 2018 Handbook needs to sign up by November 15.   Sign up is available online in the "Members Only" section. TIME TO RIDE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Time to Ride is an initiative of the American Horse Council's Marketing Alliance designed to connect new people to horses and grow participation across the entire horse industry. For the second year in a row, the Arabian Horse Association partnered with Time to Ride on its largest program, the Time to Ride Challenge. The Challenge offered $100,000 cash and prizes to the stables, clubs, and businesses who introduced non-riders to horses and riding. AHA offered an additional $5,000 for members of AHA who competed in the Challenge. The Challenge opened on March 1, and took place from May 1 through September 30. Overall, more than 22,152 new people were introduced to horses for the first time through the Challenge.

2017 ARABIAN HORSE YOUTH JUDGING CONTEST RESULTS ANNOUNCED

The results are in for the 47th Annual Arabian Horse Youth Judging Contest, sponsored by Awards Recognition Concepts, and hosted at the 2017 U.S. National Arabian and Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show. This year at the contest in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 27 teams and more than 83 individuals, from all over the country competed on October 27,2017, for their chance at a National title. The youth were asked to judge six performance classes, four halter classes, including Half-Arabians and Purebreds, and present four sets of oral reasons. NOMINATION DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR DISTANCE HORSE OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Distance Horse of the Year Award is presented to an Arabian, Half-Arabian or Anglo-Arabian horse for outstanding achievements in distance events for the current year. The award recipient is honored by a name plate on the perpetual trophy and listed on the Arabian Horse Association's website. In addition, the owner of the horse receives a take-home trophy to display. ROLEX CENTRAL PARK SHOW CROWNS CHAMPIONS ON FIRST EVENING OF COMPETITION

UPDATE ON EARLY STABLING AT U.S. NATIONALS

Due to ongoing concerns regarding the increased price of early stabling at U.S. Nationals, the U.S. Nationals Show Commission has made the decision to adjust the price of early stabling for this year. The Show Commission would like to thank exhibitors and trainers for input, and will continue to take further suggestions into consideration. The Early stabling fees will be charged at U.S. Nationals as followed: Arrival prior to 7 a.m. on Friday, October 13: $100 per stall for all stalls ordered for stabling and/or set ups. DONATE TO THE USEF EQUINE DISASTER RELIEF FUND TO HELP HORSES AFFECTED BY HURRICANE HARVEY

Sweeping across the Gulf Coast of Texas as a Category 4 hurricane over the past weekend, Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic flooding has put the Houston and surrounding area equine community in a state of distress. Declared a major disaster and weather event, hundreds of horses and livestock have been affected. Banding together as a community, emergency rescues, fellow equestrians opening up their barns for shelter and extensive veterinary care has been required over the last several days.  As the rain continues to fall, rising flood waters will make extended care for displaced large and small animals on an ongoing need. REGISTRATION FOR VARIAN WAY WEEKEND NOW OPEN

The First Annual Varian Way Weekend will be held August 5-6, 2017, at Varian Arabians in Arroyo Grande, California. OM EL ARAB TO HOST "THE CONFORMATION CLINIC" IN JULY

Om El Arab has announced that it will be hosting "The Conformation Clinic," two days of in-depth teaching about Arabian Horse conformation, July 22-23, 2017, in Santa Ynez, California. Clinic fees are $75 for adults, $35 for children 12 and younger, and will include the clinic, clinic packet, live judging and certification. The 60th Annual Canadian National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show will be held August 13-19, 2017, at the Keystone Center in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. The deadline for entries is June 27, and may be done online here. New classes for 2017 include Greenhawk A/HA/AA Handy Hunter Classic Exhibition; Ranch Horse Riding Open and ATR for both Arabian & Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian; JTR Reining for both Arabian & Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian; and the AOTR Reining has been changed to AATR. The Region III Arabian Championship Horse Show will be held July 7-12, 2017, at the Murieta Equestrian Center in Rancho Murieta, California. US EQUESTRIAN NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2018 U.S. SADDLE SEAT WORLD CUP TEAM SELECTION TRIALS

Applications are now being accepted for consideration to participate in the 2018 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team Selection Trials. The selection trials will be held at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, December 1-2, 2017. A riders' meeting/draw will be held the evening of Friday, December 1, and the selection trials will take place on Saturday, December 2, with team member announcements that evening. The World Cup is a bi-annual competition that originated in the early 1980s with an informal exchange of saddle seat riders in the United States and South Africa, and was named the Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup in 1992. Arabian Horse Association members now can do all their AHA National Shows entries online. It is easy to do and members won't have to waste money on postage, hassle with sending in photo copies of membership/competition cards, and/or worry about of everything arriving on time to the AHA office. The Arabian Horse Association has announced that Distance Nationals is going back to Steph Teeter's Ranch in Oreana, Idaho, October 6-8, 2017. This year's event adds the Paso Fino Horse Association and the return of the Appaloosa Horse Club. These organizations have decided to partner with the AHA in holding their National Championship Rides in conjunction with the AHA Distance National Championship Rides. AHC ANNOUNCES PANEL SPEAKERS FOR NATIONAL ISSUES FORUM

The American Horse Council (AHC) has announced that speakers for the Research and Youth Panels at the upcoming National Issues Forum, sponsored by Luitpold Animal Health, have been set. The Region 2 Championships will be held June 20-25 at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara, California. Entries close May 30.
