Sylvia Zerbini's Arabian Horse Grande Liberté Performance will perform during the Opening Ceremonies Saturday night, May 7, 2016, at the Region 12 Championships in Reeves Arena. Most recently, Sylvia and her 10 Arabian horses performed with Cavalia from 2008-2011. She is internationally acclaimed and has performed for more than 10 million people. Sylvia has received numerous awards including the prestigious Cup of Monaco, presented to her by Monaco's Prince Rainier. She has appeared at landmark venues like Madison Square Garden in New York City, Playa De Americas in Mexico City, Molsen Center in Montreal, and at Los Angeles' Staples Center, before touring with Cavalia as their star act. (She also performed in Tulsa for the US Arabian Nationals in 2013.) She will surely attract an audience and provide a fantastic culmination of the club’s 35th annual show. Many thanks to Allison Mehta for this brilliant addition to our show. She and many other sponsors made this possible.

Here are some other highlights of the 2016 show:

• The dates are May 2-7, 2016. The prize list will be available online shortly.
• The judges in Reeves will be Richard Petty, LaRae Fletcher Powell and Cathy Murphy Economy. The judges in Sutherland will be Carol Bishop, Charlotte Trentelman, Paddy Nyegard, and Meg Rhodes.
• In addition to the regularly scheduled classes, the show committee added 12 Egyptian halter classes. They will have six classes for Straight and six for Heritage; fillies and colts; 2-year and under; 3- to 5-year-olds; and 6 and over. The response has been very enthusiastic, and they will be held on Wednesday afternoon while the reining takes place outside. Petty and Murphy-Economy will judge these classes individually.
• The Exhibitors' Party will be held in conjunction with the Spotlight Futurity following their auction on Thursday night. Because they were so popular, the committee hired the same band as last year. Thursday is May 5, so the Futurity Committee selected a "Cinco de Mayo" theme.
• The Second Annual Chili Cook Off is scheduled for Friday afternoon. One thousand dollars in prizes will be awarded. There will be a blind tasting and the contest will be judged by local Perry officials.
• The show will present the colors again on Friday night to honor the military and plans to invite military families Friday and Saturday.
• Hennessy Arabians will host an "Introduction to the Arabian Horse" event for visitors on Friday and Saturday. Thank you Frank and George Z for sponsoring this.
• Christine Johnson of Iron Horse Farm will host a "Grooming Clinic" for youth and visitors on Saturday so locals can have a "hands-on" experience while there. She also is providing goodie bags for attendees.
• Saturday, May 7, is Kentucky Derby Day! The show will host a Derby Party for those wanting to watch the race, have a Mint Julep, and watch the coverage starting at 4 p.m.

The Help Bring “DJ” Back event will be Saturday April 9th, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at CornerStone Stables in Erin, Ontario. Multiple clinicians and demonstrations, a silent auction, a food booth/bake sale and other activities are planned. All proceeds are to financially assist Doris and Rob Woolner and Derek Jones as they cope in the aftermath of a horrific barn fire that claimed 12 of their horses last month and completely destroyed Woolner's barn. "DJ" is the only horse that escaped and currently is rehabilitating at a vet's facility. Event admission is $75 per person until April 1, $85 after.
